Chennai(PTI):AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa will take oath as Tamil Nadu chief minister on May 23, days after being acquitted in a disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.
Current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is expected to resign on May 22, AIADMK spokesperson C R Saraswathi was quoted as telling media on Wednesday.
Jayalalithaa is scheduled to offer floral tributes to statues of the party's founder M G Ramachandran, DMK founder C N Annadurai and D K founder EV Ramaswamy on May 22.
The AIADMK has reportedly called for a meeting of its legislators at the party headquarters here to elect Jayalalithaa as leader of the AIADMK legislature party on May 22.
Jayalalithaa was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case, quashing a special court order convicting her to four years in prison and imposing a fine of Rs 100 crore on her in the case.
