New Delhi (web team): A high-magnitude earthquake rocked North India on Tuesday afternoon at 12.35 pm. News Nation office also reported that the earthquake was very powerful.
"The quake measured 7.4 on richter scale with epicenter somewhere in Nepal," an IMD official said.
Massive tremors were felt in Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata and other parts of Northern India. Pakistan and Bangladesh also witnessed the shocks. The earthquake was of 7.4 magnitude on Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was again Nepal.
In Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region, people were seen running out of their houses after buildings shook for well over two minutes.
Metro services were immediately put on restricted mode with speeds being slowed down. Authorities said in many areas, high-rise buildings are being vacated.
Earlier, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter Scale killed more than 8000 people in Nepal. Dozens of people with injuries were being brought to the main hospital in central Kathmandu. There was no immediate estimate on fatalities.
The tremor today jolted Nepal, triggering panic among the people already battered by the devastating earthquake and over 150 aftershocks as the death toll crossed 8,000.
