Kolkata,Pooja Mehta: As the polling began in the 91 civic bodies of West Bengal, the first few hours were marred by political clashes.

An hour after the polling began at ward number 14 of Katwa in Burdwan district, one person was shot dead. The deceased, Indrajit Sinha has been identified as a Trinamool Congress supporter. The TMC has blamed Congress for the incidence, but Congress has denied the allegation. Apart from Sinha, one person was seriously injured in the incident.

Second round of firing began at Katwa around 9.15 am to scare voters. In Titagarh, a voter was shot at and has been admitted to a hospital after he sustained serious injuries. As many as two CPM supporters were shot by allegedly Trinamool Congress supporters. The two injured CPM supporters have sustained serious injuries. A CPM candidate of Chandrakona Town, Suparna Kundu has been allegedly abducted by Trinamool Congress supporters. CPM has claimed that the abduction has been carried out by the Trinamool Congress.

Allegations of violence continue to pour from different districts as soon as polling begin across the state.

In North Dum Dum, CPM leader Gobinda Pal was targeted. One miscreant tried firing a bullet at Pal while he was on his way to cast his vote in ward number 2 of North Dum Dum. While Pal was unhurt, panic has spread in the adjoining areas.

In another incident, a bag full of as many as 22 live crude bombs was recovered from Chellmore of Bankura district. This apart, 16 other crude bombs were recovered at Sonamukhi of Bankura district. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse trouble mongers in Basirhat after some unidentified people hurled crude bombs and fired shots at voters in ward 23.

In first few hours of polling, bullets have been shot at seven places and bombs have been hurled at eight places.

In another incident, a bag full of as many as 22 live crude bombs was recovered from Chellmore of Bankura district. Meanwhile, 34 companies of central forces, West Bengal as well as Kolkata Police are trying to maintain law and order situation in the state. Police has already made one arrest in Titagarh. According to the police, an outsider was arrested from the polling premise of Titagarh after they suspected him to spreading trouble in the area.
